FAQs: Building a Match with Friends

Jumping into a battle with your friends is one of the best parts of Iron Rebellion and we’re actively working on making that experience even more seamless in future updates. Right now, the most reliable way to squad up is by using external communication - like Discord (you can join the official Iron Rebellion Discord here), Quest party chat, etc.
While our full friend-joining system is still on the roadmap, there are a couple of easy ways players are already teaming up in-game today:
Joining with a Sector Number
Once you're connected:
Share your Sector Number with your friends
They can find your match under the Server list

You can locate the Sector Number:
In the lobby (top of the battle screen)
In-match, at the top center of your cockpit UI

This method is the fastest and most widely used across the community.
Joining Without a Sector Number
If sharing a Sector Number isn’t ideal, you can create a match that’s easy for your friends to recognize.
For example:
Start a match with a unique player count or mode (like a 3-player Uplink)
Use one extra slot so a random player doesn’t take a friend’s spot

Once your group joins:
Adjust the match settings
Close extra slots
Launch your intended game mode
This method is especially handy if you decide to abandon a match mid-game and start a new one. Just communicate to your friends that you’re going to start an X player match on Y map. They should be able to easily identify the lobby you have created without knowing the Sector Number.
Managing Extra Players
At the moment, private lobbies and host controls (like kicking players) are still in development.
If someone unexpected joins:
Let them know you’re grouping up with friends
Most players are happy to hop out and find another match
Remember, some folks may be brand new to Iron Rebellion and may have just hit the Quick Match button. They didn't mean to crash your party. New friends never hurt anyone!
