PvE Development

Development on PvE and Faction Wars continues to move forward as we begin connecting individual missions to the larger gameplay systems behind the universe.

This month, much of that work has focused on prototyping how resources, territory, and progression could interact across the galactic map. The goal is to create a system where winning or losing a battle has meaning beyond a single match, contributing instead to the larger success of your Faction.

Right now, we're experimenting with two interconnected forms of progression. The first is territorial: Factions work to establish and maintain a supply line from their home world toward the Aperture, securing the resources needed to progress along the way. The second is personal progression, where controlling specific types of territory can help expand access to mechs, weapons, augments, repairs, and other resources.

We're also experimenting with fortification systems that would allow Factions to strengthen territory they've already captured, increasing the PvE challenge for opposing teams attempting to take it back.

These systems are still firmly in the prototype phase, and we're continuing to test what works, what doesn't, and how each mechanic can support the larger experience. The vision for PvE and Faction Wars is becoming increasingly clear, even if the path toward that vision continues to evolve along the way.

Universe Lore

As the Faction Wars prototype develops, we're also beginning to define why different parts of the universe matter. Rather than every location serving the same purpose, we're exploring different categories of territory that could contribute resources to your Faction in different ways.

Research worlds could provide access to enemy data, augment schematics, and new technology. Resource worlds could supply the materials needed for repairs and fleet expansion. Factory worlds could support weapons production, ammunition, and access to increasingly powerful equipment.

Many of the maps already familiar to Iron Rebellion players are being explored as locations within this larger ecosystem.

The goal is to give every mission context. A battle over a refinery, research compound, or factory isn't simply another match on another map. It's a fight over something your Faction needs, and potentially something your enemy can't afford to lose.

There is still a lot of experimentation happening here, and none of these systems are set in stone, but the larger universe behind Iron Rebellion is beginning to connect in ways we're excited to keep exploring.

Performance and Quality Updates

July brought the release of the Observer Update, which included the new Spectator Mode, a complete minimap overhaul, and a variety of performance, networking, and quality-of-life improvements.

In just a few short days, we've already seen players begin experimenting with Spectator Mode in ways we hoped they would, from instructional videos to cinematic content that gives an entirely new perspective on battles happening across Iron Rebellion.

We're also excited to share that development on bHaptics integration officially began on July 27. Work is still early, but we're looking forward to exploring how haptic feedback can make the cockpit experience even more immersive.

Community Updates

Our community continues to stay busy both inside and outside the cockpit.

With a wave of new pilots joining the battlefield recently, we'd like to take a moment to thank the veteran players who continue to help new players learn the systems, experiment with loadouts, and set up events to keep everyone engaged while we’re building out the true PvE experience.

That said, here are some events happening now:

Iron Core has continued its Saturday night community events with EmVee coordinating regular battles and strong turnouts. The Faction has also announced that they're looking to add more members, so pilots searching for a group to deploy with can find more information in Discord.

ShieldOfJustice is also continuing to stream Iron Rebellion every Monday evening on Twitch, giving both new and experienced pilots another place to watch matches, learn, and connect with the community.

The team is beginning to explore some new ways to share what's happening in-game through monthly player data. After analyzing more than 10,000 matches played in July, we've already found some interesting differences between the equipment choices of the highest-performing players and the broader playerbase. We're looking at everything from weapons and augments to maps and loadouts, and we may begin sharing more of those findings in future updates. Stay tuned.

Finally, as development on PvE continues, Patreon members will receive first access to the upcoming PvE beta. If you'd like to be among the first pilots to experience what we're building and follow development more closely, you can join us on Patreon.

As always, thank you for your continued support. There is still plenty of work ahead, but each month we're getting closer to Faction Wars!

See you on the battlefield.
